Vehicles in German City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers mentioned they were contacted by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say initial examinations show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed quickly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
